Our Greek Embroidery items are true works of art.

Embroidery is the art of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply yarn or thread.  Embroidery is available in a wide variety of yarn or thread colors. It is often used to personalize gifts or clothing items.

Greek embroidery, one of the most renowned handicrafts of Byzantium, flourished between the middle of the 17th and the end of the 19th centuries.

Textile historians note that Greek embroidery is a fusion of traditions that flourished in the eastern Mediterranean.

In Greek mythology, the goddess Athena is said to have passed down the art of embroidery (along with weaving) to humans, leading to the famed competition between herself and the mortal Arachne.

Handmade by sisters, Natalie and Valia in Marathon, Greece for Yiayia’s Market.
